ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Dr. Arif Alvi on Tuesday chaired the 14th meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), and unanimously approved the name of Dr. Hathal bin Hamoud Al-Otaibi, currently serving at the Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University, as President of the University at Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad.

The Rector IIUI Professor Dr. Masoom Yasinzai briefed the participants about the activities and role of IIUI in promoting education in the Country.

While welcoming the members of BoT, the President said that the University was a great centre of learning that provided not only modern education but also had a greater contribution in educating the students about Sharia and Islamic history and culture.

While addressing the meeting through video-link from Jeddah, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Council (OIC) Dr. Yousaf bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen thanked the government of Pakistan for offering 100 scholarships for the students of 15 under developed Countries. Dr. Yousaf bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen expressed his heartfelt condolences over the loss of lives in yesterday’s attack on Pakistan Stock Exchange, Karachi, and reiterated OIC support to stand by Pakistan in its fight against terrorism. The President of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Dr. Bandar M.H Hajjar, assured the meeting that the Bank would continue to fund the Waqf project of the university. President Dr. Arif Alvi appreciated the cooperation extended by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and IDB to the university. Dr. Arif Alvi deeply thanked Al-Azhar University, Egypt for sending 30 teachers and bearing their financial responsibilities. The president also admired the services and contributions rendered by the former President of IIUI Dr. Ahmad bin Yousaf Al-Darwesh for the promotion of education.

The meeting was attended by Rector IIUI Professor Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Vice President IIUI Professor Dr. Aqdas Naveed Malik, Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court Justice Muhammad Noor Meskanzai, Chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology Professor Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Chairman HEC Professor Dr. Tariq Banuri, Secretary Finance Naveed Kamran Baloch, Secretary Foreign Affairs Sohail Mahmood, and Secretary to the President of Pakistan Tariq Najeeb Najmi.

Whereas OIC Secretary-General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, President, Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Dr. Bandar M. H Hajjar, President Al-Azhar University (Egypt) Professor Mohamed Othman Elkhosht, Pro-Chancellor IIUI Professor Ahmad Salem Muhammad Al-Ameri, and Acting President Islamic University of Madina Dr. Abdullah Al-Utaibi attended the meeting through video-link.
