ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Islamabad tops among Pakistani institutions and also succeeded to clinch 18th position among top western Asian institutions as per the high-quality research outputs ranking table 2016.

According to the released index by international reputed organisation, Nature, the CIIT Islamabad has showed remarkable performance with 246.2% increase in weighted fractional count (WFC) in 2015 as compared to 2014.

Among the top 20 institutions from western Asia all three top universities are from Israel while King Abdullah University of Science and Technology Saudi Arabia remained on 4th position.

Among top western Asian institutions five universities are from Iran, three each from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan has one each as COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Islamabad stood at 18th position.

Among the top global institutors, China succeeded to get top position as Global Academy of Sciences China stood first followed by Harvard University USA, French National Centre for Scientific research France, Max Plank Society Germany and Stanford University USA and University of Tokyo Japan. Two universities from UK, Oxford and Cambridge stood at 9 and 10th position respectively.

Among the top 20 global institutors seven are from USA, two each from Japan, china, UK and one each from France, Canada and Switzerland.

No Pakistani institution could make place among top global institutes.

Each year, the Nature Index publishes tables based on counts of high-quality research outputs in the previous calendar year. The data behind the tables are based on a proportion of total research papers, covering the natural sciences. The 2016 tables are based on Nature Index data from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2015.

The academic and social circles greeted chancellors, rector and faculty of CIIT for winning laurels for Pakistani nation at regional forums.

They have also appreciated the contribution of CIIT for promoting research culture in Pakistani universities and provision of quality higher education in different parts of the country.

Punjab Highway Patrol releases annual performance report for 2024 Lahore, Pakistan: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) has released annual performance report for 2024 that shows promising working under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar. According to details, in the year 2024, PHP checked 31.4 million people on the highways across Punjab through e-Police Post App and arrested 6,537 proclaimed offenders/judicial fugitives. Punjab Highway Patrol checked 18.8 million vehicles with the help of modern technology and also recovered 3,350 stolen vehicles/motorcycles. Legal action was taken against 869,000 overloaded vehicles for axle load violation. Legal action was taken against more than 12,000 vehicles across Punjab for illegal use of gas cylinders. In view of the convenience of the citizens, last year, PHP issued 148,000 driving licenses - 678 missing children were reunited with their parents. 5,005 temporary and permanent encroachments were removed and traffic flow was improved. More than 112,000 passengers facing difficulties on the roads across Punjab were provided with various types of assistance and guidance. 119,000 citizens were provided with various types of assistance and guidance at Police Khidmat Markazes. 1,093 cases were registered for the use of illegal weapons. 20,925 liters of alcohol, 400 kilograms of hashish, 53 kilograms of opium and 5.5 kilograms of heroin were recovered from drug peddlers.
