ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Computer laboratories are being established in girls schools working under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to upgrade the standard of education at par with international standard.

According to an official of Ministry of Information and Technology on Friday, 107 girls schools of federal capital are being provided modern computer laboratories.

The ministry is also taking initiatives for girls empowerment in collaboration with Bait-ul-mal, Universal Services Fund and Microsoft, he added.

He said 157 Women Empowerment Centres (WECs) are working in country under Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM). The centres are being established as part of `ICT for Girls’ project, aiming to equip WECs with state of the art computer laboratories and broadband infrastructure.

He said the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) provides a great opportunity to shorten the traditional development cycle and speeds up the spread of knowledge, bringing the words of ideas and opportunities at the fingertips of users.

“We intend to leverage ICT as key driver of bridging social gap. Making our women and girls more empowered and up skilled is the manifesto of our government,” he said.

“We are in active collaboration with all key partners and stakeholders with an objective of enabling the daughters and sisters of our country to equip with modern skills that can help them to stand on their own feet in terms of financial sustenance and contribution for the economy.”
