EducationCheck latest details about the extension of winter vacations in Punjab schools

LAHORE – As the two-week winter vacations in Punjab are about to end, social media was all buzzing as parents of school-going students demanded provincial authorities to push winter break till Jan 15.

Parents and even students took to social media demanding another week off from educational institutions as the region shivers below 5 degrees before noon amid the new weather system.

Initially, it was reported that the Elahi-led government has decided to extend winter vacations in public and private schools amid bone-chilling weather, however, an official of the School Education cleared the air, putting all rumors to rest.

After a meeting, a meeting was held for a final decision against extending winter vacations in Punjab as Lahore, and other cities are facing cold weather and poor air quality.

Earlier this week, Deputy Secretary School Education Department took to Twitter to address the speculations. The official announced against extending the vacations. “Till now, The Winter vacations in Schools are not going to be extended. Not even under consideration. Pls Don’t run behind rumours,” his tweet reads.

As extreme temperature prevails, Punjab MPA Yawer Abbas Bukhari called on education minister Murad Raas to extend the break until January 15, citing intolerable weather for minors. He said an extension of a few days will keep children away from the effects of extreme cold.

Murad Raas or any of the education department officials has not responded to Bukhari’s tweet while schools in the provincial capital have already informed pupils about the start of educational activities from tomorrow January 09.

Last month in December, LHC ordered to close  schools amid worsening air quality as Lahore, once known as the city of gardens, was ranked among the top polluted cities in the world.

To keep minors safe from worsening air quality, provincial authorities also announced three-day closure of schools in Lahore schools while the government also mulled other stern measures to cut smog amid the alarming situation.
