ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Students registration in Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOUI) went all-time high in almost all the academic programs during recent admissions (autumn 2015).

Total admissions during the semester were 6 lakh and 57 thousands, said a news release on Wednesday.

As the University opens the admission twice in a year, the annual admissions had been over 1.3 million.

This was result of some far-reaching academic and administrative steps taken during last one year under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui.

This reflected the trust and confidence, the University enjoyed among students of all ages.

In the efforts of reconstructing the soft-image of this mega University, greater focus was laid in strengthening delivery system, ensuring timely availability of books to the students.

Transparency and efficiency were brought about in the admissions, examination, announcement of results and issuances of degrees, through technology-based automation system. Special attention was also paid to strengthening of students support system.

A number of scholarships schemes were announced to accommodate the students who were unable to carry on their education due to financial constraints.

Some new academic programs were also introduced to meet the requirements of all segments of society in their educational pursuits. To build the AIOU as a first-class global University under distance learning system, academic interaction and cooperative partnership was built with national and intentional universities.

It is hoped that the University will maintain its upward trend in the new admonitions, beginning from February 1, as well. Dr Shahid Siddiqui has directed the regional offices to facilitate the students in the admission process.

Meanwhile, the University has also introduced “fee installment scheme” under which, the poor and deserving students around the country who are unable to deposit the whole fee of the semester could take benefit.

To know the details and get benefited from the scheme, the needy students have been advised to contact the nearest Regional Campus of the University.
