ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will provide educational facilities to the prisoners in Jail.

Smooth and comfortable educational arrangements including free education would be provided to the prisoners in jails.

Sources told media that Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui is taking keen interest in the promotion of education system being extended by qualified and experienced staff of the varsity.

The plan to facilitate prisoners with quality education would be implemented in collaboration with the jail authorities in light of the guidelines provided by the Wafaqi Mohtasib.

The plan is part of the jails’ reforms proposal, being pursued under the directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the sources said.

The VC after taking charge of the varsity is making all out efforts to extend maximum facilities to all of the enrolled students so that they can contribute in their respective fields and make progress for this country, the sources added.
