ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) with the support of Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) has decided to introduce 12 skill-based courses in the field of multimedia, vocational and agriculture.

An official of the AIOU told APP here Wednesday that initially, two courses will be launched relating to audio-video recording and editing.

He said the proposed courses include audio-video recording and editing, video camera handling, still photography, graphic and set design, digital camera repairing and maintenance, refrigeration and air conditioning repairing and maintenance, cell phone repairing, commercial poultry farming, construction of poultry farm, poultry processing marketing and value addition.

He said that ongoing interaction between CEMCA and AIOU have proved highly beneficial in introducing skill-based education in the country.

In this connection, CEMCA will come up with technical and financial support while the courses have been developed by the University’s Institute of Educational Technology (IET) in collaboration with Pakistan Television (PTV) and Radio Pakistan.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said these courses will help develop expertise and necessary know-how for arranging vocational and technical training for youth and female section of the society.

This, he said is part of University’s consistent efforts to promote its collaboration with national and international institutions to equip its students with latest knowledge and technology.

The AIOU, he said wanted to utilize its available potential and infrastructure strength for addressing socio-economic issues of the society through academic and research-based activities.

Media, which has emerged as major social institution, will be the main source of promoting skill-based programs.
