ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In a bid to meet the requirements of new trends in Educational Sector, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is actively engaged in revising curriculum/syllabus of its nearly 12,000 academic programmes, and nearly 80 percent of the work has so far been completed.

This major task was undertaken about three years back when Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui took over as the Vice Chancellor (VC).

According to the director admissions, the curriculum was being revised keeping in view the new academic developments, took place in recent years in various disciplines.

The revised curriculum was being made market-oriented and as per the needs of the society.

The teaching pattern was also being updated in order to improve the quality of the academic programmes at every level.

Meanwhile, the AIOU has expended the process of ‘sending books’ to its over seven lakh enrolled students from Matric to PhD for the autumn, 2017 semester. So far, books with allied material have been dispatched to over four lakh and seventy thousand students.

Timely mailing of course books to students was a big challenge especially with the increasing number of enrollment.

According to the Mailing Department, the process has been undertaken on fast-track basis so as to complete it within the stipulated time-frame set by the VC.

The VC has directed the department expedite the process so as to give sufficient time to the students to submit their course-assignments.

A new computerized tracking system has been introduced, facilitating its thousands of students to check books’ mailing status.

The new computerized tracking system has recently been developed through which the student using website can simply enter his/her roll number and registration number to track the mailing package.

The relevant staff of the department has also been advised to ensure accuracy in the mailing system to avoid any inconvenience at the students’ level.
