ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has introduced some special programs of vocational and technical training enabling the people to earn their livelihood with honor.

These programs have been offered in the ongoing admissions and hope that maximum number of students will take benefit of such programs for better life.

It was stated by the Registrar AIOU Muhammad Naeem Qureshi and Director Admission Syed Zia-ul-Hasnain while speaking at the second-day session of information seminar held on Thursday.

The students were informed about the admission process and the special academic facilities being provided to the perspective students.

The newly launched courses including auto servicing, electrical wiring, auto electrician, auto mechanical services, plumbing, welding, refrigeration and air conditioning, steel fixing, quality surveyor and civil draftsman could help the people to seek job opportunities.

The University has focused on socio-economic needs of the people while developing new academic programs, said Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui in his message on the occasion. “We wish that AIOU’s students should get better job opportunities through their academic endeavors.”

With affordable fee structure, the AIOU has launched around 1200 academic programs to meet the educational needs of the people.

The University is providing access to millions of those people particularly females who were unable to join formal educational system due to financial constraints.

It also proved most beneficial for on-job section of society, as it facilitating them to continue their education while earning their livelihood.

“We provide flexible education covering all segment irrespective of their age and living-distance,” Dr Siddiqui said.

The students’ support system has been strengthened that include an Access Centre for visually impaired students and special facilities for prisoners.

There has been all-time record of admissions in the last semester, which reflects the confidence and trust of students.

He hoped that new and continuing students would take benefit of the educational facilities being provided by AIOU.

He assured that the students would be facilitated in the admission process. This time, students could have the opportunity to get online admission.

Earlier, Tariq Rana Javed, Director Students’ Affairs briefed the students about the educational facilities.

Meanwhile, the AIOU arranged a special stall at educational expo held here at Pak-China Center to project its educational programs. A large number of students visited the stall and showed keen interest in the University’s new academic initiatives.
