ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As many as 2,000 Pakistani scholars would be sent to foreign best universities in next five years for doctoral studies under the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
An amount of Rs 20.904 billion has been approved by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for Phase-III of the Overseas Scholarships Programme.
An official of the HEC told the state-run news agency in Islamabad on Thursday that Phase- III of the scholarships programme envisages PhD level training of 2,000 talented candidates across the country on open merit in selected fields.
He said that around 200 scholarships would be awarded to the students of MS/ MPhil in Engineering Technology i.e in the fields of Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electronics, Chemicals, Textile etc. to meet faculty requirement of the already established and newly proposed skill / technical universities.
Under this programme, as many as 400 scholarships will be awarded every year for next 5 years for the students of PhD programme.
These scholars would be sent to those countries which have technologically advanced universities, the official added.
These advanced universities have no/nominal/special tuition fee rates through those relevant foreign countries/agencies/universities that have signed or planning to sign MoU/DoU with HEC.
