ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A total of 165413 scholarships have been awarded by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to students throughout the Country during last five years from 2014-15 to 2018-19, the Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood told the National Assembly.
In a written reply to a question asked by Kesoo Mal Kheeal Das, Shafqat Mahmood apprised the House that during the said period, a total of 57700 scholarships were awarded by HEC to students belonging to Punjab, 36282 to student from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 23056 to students from Sindh, and 26330 to Balochistan students.
The minister further told that 14859 scholarships were awarded to students from Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), 4597 to students from Gilgit Baltistan, 1367 to students from Islamabad and 654 to FATA students.
Shafqat Mahmood also told that Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme are awarded to students purely on academic performance irrespective of their geographical location.
In reply to another question, Shafqat Mahmood told that House that 242 teaching and nonteaching persons from BPS1 to BPS17 have been appointed in the educational institutions and the Federal Directorate of Education since 2013 till date.
