ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to implement the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s order regarding allocating the reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

It was decided in the meeting held in Islamabad on Friday with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja to deliberate upon the Apex Court’s July 12 judgement and its implementation.

However, instructions were issued to the legal team of the Election Commission that if there is any obstacle in the implementation of the decision of the Supreme Court, then they should immediately identify it so that the Apex Court will be approached for further guidance.

In the meeting, the Election Commission rejected the ruling that that the ECP had wrongly interpreted the January 13 order of the Supreme Court.

The ECP also denounced the unnecessary criticism by a ‘political party’, and rejected the ‘baseless allegations’ leveled against the CEC and ECP Members.

The ECP also dismissed the demand of resignation of the CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja, calling it absurd.

Last Friday, a 13-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa declared PTI eligible for seats reserved for women and minorities.

The Court annulled the decision of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) while also declaring the decision of the ECP null and void, terming it against the Constitution of Pakistan.
