RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: Thailand Envoy Suchart Leingsaengthong on Wednesday said his country was keen to strengthen trade relations with Pakistan.
He was visiting Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here. The envoy was received by the chamber’s president, Mian Humayun Parvez, senior vice president Saqib Rafiq and other office-bearers of the chamber.
The Envoy said, the governments of Pakistan and Thailand had started feasibility study of free trade agreement (FTA) which would be completed by 2016 and once the FTA was signed bilateral trade would take a big jump, he added.
He also stressed the need of frequent exchange of trade delegation and ensured his full cooperation in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion RCCI President Mian Humayun Parvez said that current bilateral trade volume between the two countries is around $1 billion which is very low, adding, we need cooperation and assistance from Thailand in private sector industry.
Senior vice president Saqib Rafiq, former president Syed Ali Reza, former vice president Chaudhry Iqbal, members of the executive committee and a large number of traders were also present on the occasion.
