TASHKENT, Uzbekistan: The Embassy of Pakistan in Tashkent organized an impressive function at its premises on Saturday morning to celebrate the National Day of Pakistan, in which Ambassador Dr Irfan Yusuf Shami addressed the participants.

The event was attended by all Embassy officers and officials, members of the community, Pak-Uzbekistan Friendship Society, academicians, media persons and other well-wishers of Pakistan.

The function begin with hosting of the national flag by Pakistan’s Ambassador Dr Irfan Yusuf Shami to the tune of the national anthem. The messages of both President and Prime Minister of Pakistan were read out by the Ambassador.

After presentation of historical and latest documentaries relating to the event, the Ambassador addressed the participants. He congratulated the audience on this auspicious day and highlighted the sacrifices of our founding forefathers in achieving an independent homeland.

Ambassador Dr. Irfan Yusuf Shami highlighted the immense sacrifices by the Pakistani nation, particularly by its valiant armed forces, ever since its independence. He also highlighted the recent stand-off with India and the responsible and restrained response by the Government in de-escalating tensions, while at the same time practically demonstrating its firm resolve to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.

The Ambassador also highlighted the recent tragic terrorist attacks against two mosques in New Zealand, which resulted in the martyrdom of nine Pakistani nationals. He further drew attention to the continued and sincere efforts of the Government, under Prime Minister Imran Khan, for the rapid socio-economic development of the country as well as for improvement of its regional and international stature.

The ceremony ended with prayers for the country’s progress and prosperity, after which all guests were entertained with traditional Pakistani dishes and sweets.
