ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ali Alizada has said that the Azerbaijani nation always remembers that Pakistan was one of the first Countries to recognize Azerbaijan as an independent State, and that it never established its relations with the aggressor Armenia, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

His remarks came when he addressed an event titled “Remembrance Day Ceremony of 20 January Martyrs of Azerbaijan” held at Preston University in Islamabad on Monday to mark Black January.

Azerbaijanis annually commemorate Black January when Soviet tanks and troops, with terrible cruelty, inhuman savagery and violence invaded the streets of Baku on January 20, 1990.

In his address at the event, Ambassador Ali Alizada said that January 20 was the beginning of independence of Azerbaijan.

The ambassador said that on January 19-20, 1990, 147 civilians were killed and 744 were seriously injured when 26,000 soviet troops assaulted various Azerbaijan’s Cities including Baku.

Ali Alizada stressed upon an impartial assessment of events that led to the January 20 tragedy. He noted that the basis of all these calamities was the baseless territorial claims of the Armenians, who were massively resettled in the region, especially in the historical lands of Azerbaijan since the early 19th Century,

The envoy further said that Pakistan and Azerbaijan have very similarities in the process of getting independence. He said that Pakistan rendered thousands of lives in its war against terrorism and Azerbaijan is also facing the same situation due to Armenian hostility.

The Azerbaijan’s ambassador said that we value that Pakistan does not establish its foreign relations with Armenia in love and respect of Azerbaijan.

The Chancellor of Preston University Dr Abdul Basit also delivered his remarks at the event.

Earlier an Art Exhibition was also held at the Exhibition Hall of Preston University.

In the end, prizes were distributed among students who got positions in the Art Exhibition.

Following is the statement issued by the Azerberaijan’s Embassy in Islamabad about the “An Art Competition and Exhibition” organized in Preston University, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the 20th January – Nationwide Mourning Day;

“Students from more than 20 leading Pakistani universities and amateur artists presented their works at the contest-exhibition named as “20 January – Bloody and Glorious Page of Azerbaijan’s History” organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan jointly with Preston University of Pakistan.

Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Ali Alizada, Chancellor of Preston University Abdul Basit, diplomats of foreign countries, students and well-known artists, craftsmen, the public and mass media attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition dedicated to the presentation of paintings.

It was reported that the paintings of contest dedicated to the martyrs of “20 January”, have been accepted by the special commission starting from December 10, 2019 during a month. Competition’s paintings have covered previously announced themes such as: “From Martyrdom to Independence”, “Martyrs are always alive and never forgotten”, “Friendship between Azerbaijan and Pakistan is eternal”, “Historical monuments and modern architecture of Azerbaijan”, “20 January: a great step forward towards the independence of Azerbaijan” and students and amateur artists representing a number of Pakistani universities participated in the competition. More than 25 paintings submitted for the contest have been reviewed by a specially established commission and the winners of the contest were determined. The winners and participants of the competition will be awarded at the commemoration ceremony on the occasion of the 20 January – Nationawide mourning day and will be presented with cash prizes, certificates and various gifts.

After the opening ceremony, the exhibition was reviewed by the guests and the artists briefed them about their artworks which were on display. The exhibition was welcomed with great interest by the participants and it is planned to continue the exhibition for 3 days.”

Mushaal Malik seeks global community intervention to end Indian oppression in IIOJK ISLAMABAD: Mushaal Hussein Mullick, wife of an unlawfully incarcerated senior Hurriyat Leader Mohammad Yasin Malik, stated that the supremacist Indian occupation authorities had been committing war crimes and violating international human rights with impunity in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) since October 27, 1947 to perpetuate its illegitimate occupation on Kashmir. Speaking at a Kashmir solidarity rally taken out in Islamabad to mark Kashmir Black Day, she said that the people of Kashmir had been enduring the tyrannies of Hindutva regime during the past 77 years but these oppressions and coercive tactics could not dampen their courage. Mushaal, who is also the Chairperson of Peace and Culture Organisation, expressed serious concerns about safety and wellbeing of her jailed husband because the Indian notorious government was hell-bent to silence to most powerful voice of Kashmiri freedom struggle in a fake, fabricated and absurd case. She highlighted that the occupation authorities converted the scenic valley into a garrison city and a killing field, as even Kashmiri children could not go to school right now because parents were imprisoned for their crimes to raise voice of their right to self-determination. However, the Hurriyat leader stated that despite all these hardship and reign of terror unleashed by the brutal forces, Kashmiris remained steadfast struggling for seven decades to break the shackles of Indian slavery. Mushaal went on to say that when the people stand together, freedom can be achieved, with the people's voice, even the mightiest of tyrants can be defeated. The Hurriyat leader stated that people in the occupied valley were not even safe inside their own homes, as bodies of their leaders and loved ones were not returned to them. She highlighted the ordeal faced by Kashmiri leaders, saying Asiya Andrabi held in Tihar Jail, whose health deteriorated alarmingly in jail. She emphasized the importance of remembering this day annually, saying, “Every Pakistani stands in solidarity on this day.” Mushaal encouraged young Pakistanis to launch campaigns through social media, highlighting that Pakistan’s founding leader, Quaid-e-Azam, also placed trust in the power of youth. “You can become our powerful voice today,” she stated, urging them to remain steadfast for Kashmir. Mushaal recalled that India had resettled millions of Indian nationals in the region unlawfully to alter its demographic makeup, aiming to turn it into what she termed a mini-India. She called upon the international community to hold India accountable for its excesses in IIOJK and to support the Kashmiri people's struggle for their inalienable right to self-determination. Mushaal vowed that the people of Kashmir have endured decades of oppression, but their resolve remains unbroken. However, she urged the international community and human rights organizations to shun the double-standard and take note of Indian worst human rights violations so as to resolve the Kashmir dispute once for all in accordance to the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
