Karachi: Some parts of Oman including Masirah Island, Quriyat, Al Sharqiyah experienced heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the early morning hours. The speed of Nilofar was 175kmph and 390km off the Coast of Masirah Island, before veering northeast to move away from Oman.

   

Meanwhile Pakistan disaster management team is ready to face cyclone and has issues its emergency checklist.

Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority has issued a checklist that includes precautionary evacuations to higher grounds of people living in coastal areas / low lying areas near the coast or residing in huts, refraining people from swimming in the sea, warning and forecasts be issued to people, ships, ports etc. and rescue agencies be placed on alert in the likely areas of impact.

Meanwhile authorities in India have begun evacuating thousands of people as a cyclone heads for the western coast.

Cyclone Nilofar is ategorised as “severe” by weather forecasters and is expected to hit Gujarat state on Saturday morning.

India’s Meteorological Department has predicted the storm will bring winds of up to 130km/h (80 mph).
