Shahzeb murder case: SC orders police to conduct honest investigation

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Tuesday directed the police to conduct honest investigations into the Shahzeb murder case, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Choudhry resumed the hearing of suo moto case on Tuesday.

During the course of hearing, the chief justice remarked that the SC uses its authority wherever the issue of human rights is involved, adding it is regretful if somewhere law is not followed. While Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that except police, everyone knows who killed Shahzeb Khan.

The chief justice hoped that the police will conduct an honest probe into the murder. He directed the FIA to investigate how Shahrukh Jatoi, the main accused in the murder, fled the country. “Everybody who helped him (Shahrukh Jatoi) to escape should be arrested,” he said.

Questioning DIG Shahid Hayat, Justice Choudhry said that how the police was able to declare Jatoi as juvenile without assessing his education certificates. He said “Police is the most irresponsible department in the country,” adding that the impression that powerful people can’t be brought to book in this country should be removed.

Later, on request of the police officials the hearing was adjourned till February 4.
