The Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal told the National Assembly on August 30 that over the last 10 years, the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has achieved numerous milestones with completion of 37 projects worth over US$ 25 billion.

In a written reply to a question, the minister apprised the House that completed projects include 16 projects in energy sectors worth around US$ 16 billion, 7 projects in infrastructure sectors whereas other completed projects are related to Gwadar port and socio-economic development.Present Status of CPEC in Pakistan

Currently, 21 projects are under development in various sectors across the Country, the minister told.

The House was further told that a number of projects fall under the category of pipeline projects which are at various stages of negotiation with the Chinese side and are expected to be developed under the framework of CPEC.

Number of under construction CPEC projects in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan & KPK

To another question, the federal minister informed that at present, 11 CPEC projects worth around Rs 276 billion are under construction which are being funded or partially funded through the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) including 07 in Balochistan, 01 each in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and 01 in all provinces.

Additionally, 09 projects with cost of US$ 2.4 billion are under construction through various mode or financing (Chinese grant, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Public-Private Partnership (PPP), Annual Development Programme (ADP) Indigenous Peoples Plan (IPP) etc.).
