Expats from worldwide aspire to have the legal authority to drive as they enter the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In the oil-rich Country, aspirants must attend all the classes in any of registered driving institutes and pass all tests to become eligible to be awarded a valid driving licence.
However, the UAE offers exception to residents of several Countries who don’t need to go through the restless process including taking a driving test to obtain a driving licence in the Emirates; rather, they simply can transfer their driving license in their home Countries with a UAE driving licence.
Under the Markhoos initiative offered by the UAE Ministry of Interior, visitors of the UAE are allowed to drive with their national driving licence and exchange it with an Emirati licences for the purpose of residency.
The below is a list of 43 Countries whose citizens are allowed to swap their national driving licence with a UAE driving license when they acquire a residency;
