PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Village and Neighborhood councilors have neither received salaries nor they have any authority even after six months of holding local bodies elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to reports, Village and Neighborhood councilors of Union Council 17 staged a protest as they have not received salaries and any authority.

The protesters were carrying placards and banners on this occasion inscribed with demands for salaries and authority. The Councilors also raised slogans against the KPK government.

The councilors said that provincial government hasn’t yet allowed devolution of power to lower levels.

“Though the Nazims have the salaries and incentives but there was nothing for the councilors”, they said.

It’s been six months since the elections were held in KPK but the concept of the devolution of power has not been realized yet.

The local bodies lections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held in May this year in which the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) won most the seats.
