RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Omar Zakhilwal met the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Friday.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that during the meeting, both discussed issues of mutual interest including security situation and measures to improve bilateral relations.Omar Zakhilwal and General Qamar Javed Bajwa

It is pertinent to mention here that last month, the COAS announced the beginning of fencing the 2400 kilometers long Pakistan-Afghanistan border, aimed at preventing the infiltration of militants from across the border.

However, the Afghan envoy rejected the idea of fencing the border, and was of the view that building a border barrier would not help reduce terrorism; rather, he backed bilateral talks between the two neighboring Countries to end this menace.

Meanwhile, the Multinational Peace Conference on Afghanistan has begun in the Russian Capital Moscow today as part of efforts to maintain peace in Afghanistan.

The Conference is being attended by Pakistan, China, India, Iran and five Central Asian States.

The Additional Foreign Secretary Tasneem Aslam is heading Pakistan’s delegation in the talks.
