KARACHI, Pakistan: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reviewing 21 development schemes of Rs 10 billion Karachi package has directed local government department to submit its PC-1 documents with P&D department by August 3 and get them approved from technical committee and provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) so that they can be completed by December 2016.

He issued these directive while presiding over a meeting here at the CM House on Tuesday, said a statement.

   

The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Chief Secretary Siddique Memon, Principal Secretary Alamuddin Bullo, ACS (Dev) Muhammad Waseem, Commissioner Karachi Aijaz Khan, Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed, Secretary Finance Hassan Naqvi, Secretary P&D Rehana Memon and others.

Briefing the CM Sindh, Additional Chief Secretary Development Muhammad Waseem said that Rs 10 billion Karachi package has 21 schemes. These schemes are to be completed during the current financial year, he added.

On this the CM Sindh said that he would provide necessary funds but schemes must be completed by December 2016.

Briefing about Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Flyover at Shaheen Complex, the ACS (Dev) said its construction cost is Rs 754 million. It would be 400 meter. Its completion time is eight months from date of start.

On this the CM Sindh asked the Project Director if he had submitted the PC-I with P&D. The PDs reply was in negative.

The CM Sindh directed him to submit the PC-I by August 03 and also urged the ACS Development M. Waseem to hold Technical committee meeting on Friday to approve the scheme.

“I want you (PD) to start working on shifting the utilities of KE, SSGCC, water board and such others.,” the approval of the schemes and shifting of the utilities must be done simultaneously so that it could be completed before December,” he said.

Briefing on the construction of University Road from Hassan Square to Nipa, the ACS (Dev) said it is a Rs995 million scheme and its total length comes to 3.5 kilometer while its width is 16.1 meter, Both the tracks.

The CM Sindh directed the PD to submit its PC-I in the P&D department by tomorrow and take it up in the Technical Committee meeting on Friday.

Syed Murad Ali Shah said that the road must have drains on both the sides.

Talking about construction of University Road from NED to Safora Chowk, the ACS (Dev) said that it was a Rs780 million scheme.

The length of road is 4.5 kilometer with two meters footpath, drainage, LED lights. Its PC-I has been submitted with the P&D. It is supposed to be completed within next six months. The chief minister directed P&D department to approve this scheme in the technical committee meeting being held on Friday.

Discussing Rehabilitation/reconstruction of Tariq Road from Shaheed-i-Millat Road to Shahrah-i-Qaideen, the CM Sindh was told that it was a Rs523.2 million scheme. Its length is 2.1 kilometer.

The CM Sindh directed the PD of the project to widen it as much as possible.

He also urged them to give it a surface drain and make it green and illuminated with lights.

The PD told the CM Sindh that there were some issues of shifting of utilities installations. On this the CM Sindh directed the Chief Secretary to personally handle these issues.

“This is very much clear that no scheme should stuck up in one or the other issues- get them resolved to start the schemes in time,” he said.

The CM Sindh was told that Natha Khan road needs a U-turn to reduce traffic pressure. The scheme has been approved for Rs 330 million.

The CM Sindh asked why a turn cost had gone so high. “The ACS (DEv) Muhammad Waseem told him that military land was being acquired, therefore cost of the project has gone up”.

Syed Murad Ali Shah was also briefed on the flyover at Manzil Pump flyover at N-5 Karachi.

The cost of the project is 553.969 million. The length of the flyover is 400 meter. It would cater to the growing traffic pressure of Landhi Industrial Area. It would be three lane flyover with a separate dedicated lane for Landhi.

The CM Sindh said that this project must complete by November 2016.

The sub-Marine Chowrangi underpass is a Rs667.6 million project. The underpass would be on Khaliqzaman road reaching sub-Marine Chowrangi and to match with Gizri bridge.

The CM Sindh directed the P&D department to look into every aspect of the project so that it could be made in the public interest. He asked the CS Sindh to coordinate with DHA and Cantonment for shifting of utilities.

The CM Sindh said that the remodeling of Baloch colony flyover was most important scheme.

This bridge has some design problems, therefore its one lane remains closed. This must be redesigned by making necessary changes into it. The reodeling project to cost Rs 112.82 million.

Its two existing ramps would be demolished and in their place road would be constructed with a separate lane.

A similar problem is with Drig Colony Flyover which causes serious traffic jams at the corner developed for the traffic going to Saddar area. This bridge also needs remodeling at a cost of Rs556.08 million.

The CM Sindh also directed Minister Local Government to personally monitor the work on this project so that existing structure could be used by adding another portion to give smooth flow to the traffic from airport to Saddar.

Some other projects were also discussed and the chief minister directed Commissioner Karachi to make the city green, developed and clean.

“This is my commitment and commitment of my leadership with the people of this city,” the CM Sindh said.
