Dushanbe, Tajikistan: The Summit of CIS Heads of Government Council will start today in Dushanbe.

The participants of meeting will exchange views on the current economic cooperation between CIS countries and prospects for its development.

It is expected that heads of governments of the CIS will approve 14 draft documents during the Dushanbe Summit.

According to available information, participants will also discuss draft agreement on free trade in services, innovative cooperation, the development of the intellectual property market and interaction in the customs field, education and youth policy.

It is pertinent to mention that CIS is a forum that brings together nine former Soviet countries – Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Ukraine was one of the founding countries, but decided not to ratify the CIS Charter.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev reached Dushanbe and held meeting with host President Emomali Rahmon on Thursday.

According to Tajik media reports, both reviewed bilateral relations and President Rahmon was of the view that relations with Russia is (was) one of the priorities in the foreign policy of Tajikistan.

It is pertinent to mentioned that Tajikistan and Russia signed a number of new agreements on cooperation on Thursday in the presence of Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

After signing ceremony Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stated that relations between his country and Tajikistan are of strategic nature and covered cooperation in all spheres and key areas including parliamentarian relations to investment and trade.
