Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to vie for NA-65 Chakwal by-election

Elections 2018Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to vie for NA-65 Chakwal by-election

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The President Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain will contest the by-election from NA-65 Chakwal-II seat, surrendered by his younger cousin Chaudhry Pervez Elahi.

Pervez Elahi won the elections held on July 25, 2018 in NA-65 Chakwal-II as well as in NA-69 Gujrat-II Constituencies. However, he has reportedly decided to remain in Punjab by retaining his PP-30 Gujrat-III seat.

Shujaat Hussain – who also remained the Country’s Prime Minister from June 30, 2004 to August 26, 2004 – didn’t compete in parliamentary elections 2018. However now he has decided to enter the political ring and strive for securing National Assembly seat by winning the by-election in NA-65.

It is worth mentioning here that PML-Q has four National Assembly seats and seven Punjab Assembly seats. Recently, the PML-Q leaders met the Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan in Banigala and announced their support to his party in the Central and Punjab governments.

It is being anticipated that PTI may back Chaudhry Pervez Elahi for the Speakership in the Punjab Assembly.
