Astana, Kazakhstan: Windstorm hits Capital of Kazakhistan—Astana, resulting damaging some under construction buildings and blowing over temporary signs, tents and canopies.
Meanwhile, north, north-east wind blowing over 75 km per hour (15-20 m/s) is expected to hit capital city of Astana on May 23. Met office indicates that north, north-east wind also gusting 15-20 m/s, sometimes up to 23-28 m/s is predicted to occur in Akmola region and probability of storm is 90-95%.
According to a report of Kazinform, Astana municipal services are eliminating the damages caused by a storm and municipal services are working to clean the city after gale hit the capital.
It is also reported 13 residents got non-serious injuries due to damaged occurred by high winds.
According to the press service of the major of Astana, the fall of a tower crane at the construction site in Turkestan Street, the fall of porcelain stoneware slabs off the building of the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation and the fall of the roof of the building of school No.24 in Arnasay Street was reported. Reports indicate that the wind blew off the roof of kindergarten No. 91 and some motor vehicles were damaged.
Meanwhile, Kazhydromet Weather Service has issued a storm warning for May 23 in Astana due to winds strengthening in the northwestern direction up to 25 m/s. It is expected to rain in the daytime, plus, strong winds will also blow.
“Due to unfavorable weather conditions, the Met Office’s recommends to tightly close all windows of houses or apartments and remove absolutely all items from balconies,” the city administration informed.
