Astana, Kazakhstan:  Kazakh vice minister of Energy Bakytzhan Dzhaksaliev has been placed under house arrest due to alleged corruption charges.

According to state run news agency, Bakytzhan Dzhaksaliev has been placed under house arrest on suspicion of abuse of office.

The National Bureau of Anti-Corruption believes that Dzhaksaliev released payment to contractors for clearing lakes of the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort area against rules.

According to the officials of energy minister, vice-minister of energy is suspected of abusing his authorities in the interests of two contractors during 2015.

Officials claim that vice minister overestimated nature of work almost 30 times.

An amount of KZT(currency of Kazakhstan) 863 million was released to contractors although contractors did not do work amounting KZT746 million.

It may be mentioned that he signed a memorandum between Belarus and Kazakhstan on May 24 2018 for “exchange of experience in the development and adoption of legislation and technical documentation for the construction of a nuclear power plant, as well as for other uses of nuclear energy”.

It is pertinent to mention that another energy vice-minister Gani Sadibekov was arrested on suspicion of corruption in March 2018. According to the National Bureau, the Ministry paid for the overestimated volumes of works on cleaning the lake in the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort zone.
