Monitoring Desk: Uzbekistan will partner Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Gas Pipeline project.

According to available details, the decision was taken during the meeting of presidents of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyev and Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov who signed 15 documents on cooperation including the participation of Uzbekistan in the transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) project.

“We will find common ground with our Turkmen friends and we will participate in this grandiose project,” the Uzbek president said at the end of the talks.

It should be noted that the total length of the TAPI gas pipeline will be about 1,814 km, with a throughput capacity of 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.

The joint statement noted that the presidents of the two countries confirmed a single agreed position on the development of an equitable water management system in Central Asia.

In particular, the document particularly notes the need to build new hydraulic structures on transboundary rivers in accordance with generally recognized norms of international law and taking into account the interests of all states in the region without exception.

At the briefing, Sh. Mirziyev said that the negotiations and the prospects for bilateral cooperation were thoroughly discussed. “There are no unresolved issues, mutual understanding has been achieved in all areas. On this basis, we outlined the prospects for further development of partnership between our countries, “the Uzbek leader emphasized.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
