BAKU, Azerbaijan: Uzbekistan held its Parliamentary Elections on December 22 in which the voting turnout remained 71.1 percent, the Uzbek Central Election Commission (CEC) Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said as reported by Azerbaijan’s State News Agency Azertac.

More than 20.5 million Uzbeks were registered to vote in the elections held to elect 150 representatives of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan – the Lower House of the Parliament.

Five political parties including the National Revival Party, the People’s Democratic Party, the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Social Democratic Party Adolat and the Ecological Party were in the run.

In a statement, the Uzbek CEC head said that the voting turnout in the Uzbek Parliamentary Elections remained 71.1 percent, which was a huge achievement of our nation.

The Uzbek CEC head said that for the first time, the Country used a Unified Electronic Voter List in the elections.

For the Uzbek elections, around 10,260 Polling Stations were set up, 55 of which were located abroad at the Uzbekistan’s Diplomatic Missions enabling about 1.7 million people residing outside the Country to use their franchise of right.

Besides, a total of 825 Observers, Representatives of nine International Organizations and 41 Foreign Countries including China could observe the election process in all regions of the Country.
