Ashgabat, Turkmenistan: President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has approved credit grant amounting 2.4 billion US dollars for the construction of Ashgabat-Turkmenabat Autobahn.
According to state run media, this project will be built by Turkmenawtoban OJSC.
16-lane Autobahn (expressway) will have dozens of underpasses, bridges, railway overhead crossings and intersections with a feature of a signal-free travel between Ashgabat and Turkmenabat. In addition, it is planned to build tubing road intersection connecting the highway with Artyk and Dushak settlements and Tejen and Mary cities.
The width of the highway with the first class road pavement will be 34.5 meters. The sides will be separated by special dividing lane. Every side will have a lane for emergency situations, drainage and metal fencing stopping the animals and people to go on the road. It will also has technical points with surveillance systems, traffic police outposts and service and maintenance centres. Each side of the road will have recreation centres with shops, restaurants, motels, open and covered parking lots, fuel stations and other auxiliary facilities, emergency communication points.
Ashgabat – Turkmenabat Highway will provide international standard of logistic services, expanding international transit and transport infrastructure and will help to increase trade turnover with neighbouring states. The highway will give quick access for transit cargo traffic to Uzbekistan and will open up transit cargo traffic to Uzbekistan and further to the branched system of central Asian routes.
