Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan: The government of Kyrgyzstan is exploring several options for expanding Manas International Airport, constructing new airports and redesigning of existing airports to meet transportation demands of regional connectivity.

According to the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers, government took several decisions to modernize existing communication networking for enhancing the scope of aviation.

Cabinet discussed that competition is growing from year to year in connectivity and transportation sectors in the region and infrastructure of airports is dynamically developing in the countries of the region, runways are being modernized and passenger traffic is increasing.

“We need to find a suitable business model that will be effectively implemented and will ensure the modernization of the airport and the development of domestic civil aviation through investment attraction,” said Prime Minister.

First Deputy Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov said that the working group had reviewed the proposals of three major international institutions. They have been carefully studied, and today for potential investors, priority airports for the development of the country have been selected.  Prime Minister instructed to develop the most optimal business model.

In early 2019, Kyrgyzstan introduced the fifth airspace freedom, the so-called open sky regime. It provides for the lifting of restrictions on aircraft flights over the territory of Kyrgyzstan unilaterally. This means that the government will not interfere with the decisions of the airlines in determining routes, destinations, volumes, cost of tickets and freight.
