Monitoring Desk: Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have concluded an agreement to deal with migration issue.

It is expected that the agreement will help reduce the scale of illegal migration between two countries and would strengthen joint work to curb dual citizenship, Eurasia Daily reports, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.

During the state visit of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev to Bishkek, Minister of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan Yerlan Turgumbayev and Chairman of the State Migration Service of Kyrgyzstan Bolotbek Ibraimzhanov signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of migration.

The document states that the parties undertake to exchange information on migrants, as well as on facts of dual citizenship. Kazakhstan has already signed such agreements with Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Belarus. It may be mentioned that dual citizenship is prohibited in Kazakhstan.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan expects that the signed agreements will improve the efficiency of work on the prevention of violations of migration legislation. It is pertinent to mention that strong economy of Kazakhstan attracts migrants from other Central Asian states and Kazakhstan is working constantly to deal with this issue. After Russia, Kazakhstan is the second largest country where working class of other central Asian states wish to reside and work.
