Central Asia and Eastern EuropeDiplomacy of Pakistan in Central Asia

Islamabad, Pakistan: There are five Central Asian states and three of them are without Ambassadors of Pakistan.

Only two countries out of five Central Asian States—Tajikistan and Kazakhstan have Pakistani Ambassadors.

Ambassador Dr Irfan Shami who was in Tashkent Uzbekistan got retirement in mid of November 2019 and nobody is yet to be posted in Tashkent.

Ambassador Faisal Tirmizi was withdrawn from Bishkek Kyrgyzstan just after a year of his appointment and was appointed as head of newly-formed Kashmir Cell in Foreign Office. Now this station is also waiting for posting.

Ashgabat station is vacant since last Ambassador Murad Ashraf Janjua came back in July 2018.

Sources in Foreign Office indicate that over 24 Pakistani missions/embassies have without heads (Ambassadors) all over the world.

When asked to comment, Development Observer and senior journalist Agha Iqrar Haroon whose area of work is Central Asia and Eastern Europe stated that even in Moscow, Pakistani Ambassador is working on extension while Budapest Hungary is also vacant and thanks God Ambassador Khalid Jamali has joined in Czech Republic although his appointment also got a long delay.

He stated that in Azerbaijan, Ambassador Dr. Saeed Khan Mohmand will retire on 15 December and no name has been under consideration till today according to available information.

Haroon said that it looks that Eurasian region minus China is not important for Pakistan Foreign Ministry and this could be a reason that Pakistan got no tangible support over Kashmir issue from this region except from Turkey and Azerbaijan when India abrogated its article and included Indian Occupied Kashmir into its Union system against UN resolutions and caged Kashmiri Muslims since August, 2019.
