Monitoring Desk: Islamic State also known as Daesh has claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a border post on the Tajikistan-Uzbekistan frontier, resulting several dead and injured.

According to EdNews agency, Daesh accepted responsibility at its website known as Amaq news agency.

Daesh has published a video in which a masked men claiming to be the perpetrators of the attack pledged allegiance to Islamic State’s new leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Quraishi, Reuters reported.

It may be mentioned that Quraishi replaced Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who was reportedly killed in U.S. raid in Syria on October 26, 2019.

National Security Committee of Tajikistan confirmed that 15 militants were killed along with one border guard and one policeman in a gun battle that followed the attack on a border post 50 km (30 miles) southwest of Tajikistan’s capital Dushanbe. While Amaq News Agency claimed that at least ten members of the Tajik security forces were killed.

It is pertinent to mention that Russian as well as US intelligence and security organisation had been warned that ISIS also known as Daesh could destabilize Central Asia.

In several international forums, Russian intelligence and even Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov expressed his concerns that Daesh was building itself in Central Asia.
