Car production up 37%, LCVs output increases by 104% in 8 months

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The production of jeeps and cars witnessed growth of 37.10 percent in production during the first eight months of the current fiscal year, compared to the corresponding period of last year.

As many as 122,335 jeeps and cars were manufactured during July-January (2015-16) compared to the production of 89,231 units during July-January (2014-15), showing a surged of over 37 percent, according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The production of Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs) also witnessed positive growth of 104.45 percent by going up from the output of 13,430 units during last year to 27,458 units during the current year.

The production of motorcycles increased by 17.14 percent during the period under review. The production of motorcycles stood at 1,339,481 units during the first eight months compared to the production of 1,143,458 units during the corresponding period of last year.

The production of buses increased by 77.54 percent by going up from 374 units last year to 664 units during the current fiscal year whereas the production of trucks increased by 44.23 percent, from 2,367 units last year to 3,414 units during the current fiscal year.

However, the production of tractors during the period declined by 44.65 percent by going down from the output of 31,807 last year to 17,606 this year.

On year-on-year basis, the production of jeeps and cars witnessed slight decrease of 0.78 percent by going down from the production of 12,055 units in February 2015 to 11,961 units in February 2016.

The production of LCVs declined from 2,589 units during February 2015 to 1,722 units during February 2016, showing negative growth of 33.49 percent.

The production of motors cycles increased by 15.63 percent during February 2016. The production of motorcycles in February 2016 stood at 164,501 units compared to the production of 142,267 units in February 2015.

The production of buses and trucks during the month under review increased by 163.89 percent and 116.73 percent respectively compared to the same month of last year.

As many as 95 buses and 583 trucks were manufacture during February 2016 compared to the production of 36 and 2698 respectively.

However, the production of tractors decreased by 30.76 percent in February 2016 during which the output was recorded at 3,124 units compared to the production of 4,515 units in February 2015, the PBS data revealed.

It is pertinent to mention here that overall large scale manufacturing (LSM) sector witnessed growth of 4.35 percent during the first eight months of current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The Quantum Index Numbers (QIM) of large scale manufacturing industries was recorded at 131.16 points during July-February (2015-16) against 125.69 points during same period of last year, according the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
