ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration has sealed Canteen of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital and partially closed Rahat Bakers at I-8 Markaz over unhygienic conditions there, the spokesman of District administration said.

After receiving complaints of unhygienic conditions of food and overcharging there, he said that Assistant Commissioner Captain (R) Shoaib conducted inspection and recovered expired vegetables from the Canteen being used for cooking.

Meanwhile, he said that inspection teams of Health and Food Departments Islamabad, headed by the Magistrates conducted 130 inspections of food outlets and submitted 40 challans against unhygienic food outlets selling sub-standard food items.

The teams, he said, also partially sealed Rahat Bakers, I-8 Markaz for unhygienic conditions. Six samples of food items have been also sent to laboratory for analysis.

The administration has also started crackdown against the profiteers and so far imposed fines amounting Rs. 1,00,000/ for over charging the food items vegetable and fruits.

The administration has directed the shopkeepers to ensure display of rate list, failing which, they would be imposed heavy fines and prosecuted for violations.

The administration has also activated price control committees, headed by the magistrates before the advent of Ramadan and Islamabad Market Committee has started issuing daily rate list of vegetable and fruits and crackdown against the profiteers in on the cards.

The inspection teams also conducted price checking and quality of food items and imposed fines amounting Rs. 92,000 on the food outlets including fruit and vegetable sellers for overcharging and selling sub-standard food items.

The administration has directed the food outlets to ensure compliance of food safety laws and display of rate list of food items failing which stern against would be taken against the violators.

The Drug Inspector, Sardar Shabbir Ahmed also sealed one medical store in G-8 Markaz for violation of Drug Act and issued warning to the other for keeping medicines in improper temperature.
