ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The sixth round of Pakistan-Thailand Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks would be held in Islamabad from December 22-23, official sources said.

The sources added that this has been decided at the conclusion of the fifth Round of Pakistan-Thailand Trade negotiations committee (PATHFTA) meeting which was held on November 16-17,2016 in Bangkok.

Pakistan delegation was led by Taimur Tajamal, Joint Secretary, ministry of commerce which comprised of officials from relevant departments and ministries.

The meeting was co-chaired by Sunanta Kangvalkulkij, Deputy Director General, Department of Trade negotiations, ministry of Commerce, Thailand.

According to the sources the first round of FTA negotiations between the two countries was started in Bangkok during October 2015.

During this and subsequent meetings, different working groups were formed to carry forward negotiations in a systematic manner, the sources added.

During the meeting, working groups on trade in goods, customs procedures and trade facilitation, rules of origin and legal institutional issues discussed relevant provision separately and submitted the same during Trade Negotiations Committees (TNC) meeting.

Both sides shown their satisfaction on the progress made so far and agreed to move forward on concerned matters in the next engagement of the 6th round of negotiations to be held on December 22-23 2016 in Islamabad, the sources added.
