KARACHI, Pakistan: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led Sindh government on Monday presented an overall deficit budget of Rs 14.32 billion in the provincial assembly with a total estimated outlay of Rs 1043.135 billion for the next fiscal year 2017-18.

Having also the portfolio of the finance minister, the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presented the tax-free budget in the House.

The budget shows 20 percent increase over the current financial year estimates of Rs 869.12 billion.

The receipts of the province for FY-2017-18 with 20.4 percent increase over current fiscal year budget estimates of Rs 854.50 billion, are estimated at Rs 1028.515 billion, thus indicating an overall deficit of Rs 14.32 billion.

While presenting the budget in the Sindh assembly, the Chief Minister said that the province will receive over Rs 627 billion from the federal government in various heads.

Murad Ali Shah announced to provide 49,000 jobs in various sectors including 10,000 recruitments in police department to meet shortage of staff.

The Chief Minister informed that education sector has been accorded the highest priority with allocation of Rs 202.2 billion while health sector’s allocation is Rs 100.32 billion which is 26 percent more as compared to the current financial year.

Earlier, the Sindh Cabinet accorded approval for the budget proposal for the province for the fiscal year 2017-18.
