KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday directed Sindh Board of Revenue to complete land survey in Sindh within four months after the later informed the court that around 10,515 acres (50.9 million square yards) of land in Karachi is illegally occupied while state institutions are also involved in this practice.

The court also directed to investigate into illegal lease of various properties in the province while observing that 90 percent of the revenue officials are incompetent.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court resumed hearing of the Karachi law and order suo moto implementation case.

During the hearing, revenue officials disclosed that over 10,000 acres of land in Karachi is illegally occupied while state institutions are also involved in land grabbing. They informed the court that out of 93 Dehs in Karachi, topographical survey of 87 Dehs is completed while maps of 67 Dehs have been prepared.

Revenue officials disclosed state institutions including KPT, DHA, PQA and Malir Authority are also involved in land grabbing. Officials also informed that land record of 870 Dehs in 11 districts of Sindh was burnt during riots following Benazir Bhutto assassination. However, record of 695 Dehs has now been prepared till now.

The bench noted that general public has suffered immensely with regard to land record and other related issues.

The hearing was adjourned till Monday.
