ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved an increase in the price of petrol by Rs 5.40 per litre, according to his Special Assistant on Political Affairs Dr. Shahbaz Gill.

The price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) has been increased by Rs 2.54 per litre, Kerosene Rs 1.39 per litre, and Light Diesel Oil Rs 1.27 per litre.

It’s worth noting that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had recommended Rs 11.40 per litre increase in the price of petrol.

Dr. Shahbaz Gill said that the international market has been witnessing a surge in prices of petroleum products; therefore, the regulator proposed a hike of Rs 11.40 per litre in the petrol price.

However, the special assistant added that the prime minister accorded approval to a merely Rs 5.40 hike per litre.

The special assistant said that the federal government will bear the burden of providing relief to the masses.
