ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Merchandize exports in December expanded by 7.58 percent to $1.788 billion as compared to the previous month’s exports of $1.662 billion.

The imports of goods in December 2015 decreased by 0.59 percent from $3.866 billion in November 2015 to $3.843 billion in December 2015.

The trade deficit during the period under review decreased by 6.76 percent as the deficit in November was recorded at $2.2 billion while in December 2015, the trade deficit was recorded at $2.055 billion, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics revealed data on Tuesday.

The trade deficit during first half of Fiscal year 2015-16, also decreased by 1.35 percent to $11.924 billion from $12.087 billion in July-December 2014-15.

The goods exports during first six months of current year decreased by 14.40 percent from $12.058 billion in July-December 2014-15 to $10.322 billion in first six months of current fiscal year.

Similarly the imports also dipped by 7.86 percent to $22.246 billion in July-December 2015-16 from $24.145 billion in same period of last year.

On year-on-year basis, however, the trade deficit increased by 21.96 percent in December 2015 as compared to the same month of previous year as the exports plunged by 16.8 percent and the imports witnessed a slight increase of 0.23 percent.

The trade deficit during the period under review was recorded at $2.055 billion whereas during same period of last year the trade deficit was recorded at 1.685 billion.

The exports during the period under review decreased from $2.149 billion in December 2014 to $1.788 billion in December 2015 while the imports up from $3.834 in December 2014 to $3.843 billion in same month of the year 2015.
