LAHORE, Pakistan: Federal Commerce Minister Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan inaugurated Mega Leather Show here at Lahore Expo Centre on Thursday.

The Federal Minister also took a round of all the stalls set up by local and foreign companies belonging to leather sector. He congratulated and appreciated the organizers for holding successful event of ‘Mega Leather Show and Conference’ and said it would definitely help improve Pakistan economy and exports.

Earlier, addressing a ‘Mega Leather Show’ conference at the same venue, the Federal Commerce Minister announced the formation of Leather Export Promotion Council, and assured that government would resolve the problems being faced by the leather industry, adding, Mega Leather Show would help improve Pakistan image abroad and “We have to look at tremendous potential and possibilities existed in the trade and industrial sector for economic good of Pakistan.”

Khurram Dastgir said that Pakistan leather sector’s exports was increasing especially in the leather footwear, however, the processed leather prices cut by 50 percent world over that turned into a big challenge for Pakistan. “However, we are observing that there is very positive trend regarding Pakistan leather’s finished products including footwear, in the Europe. And this would encourage of exporter to go for value added commodities giving increased profits and the government will provide all out support to them for improving quality or achieving the international standard for their products.”

The Federal Minister said that government was seriously working on creating a marketing campaign for Pakistan as a brand to be launched at international level soon. He said that Pakistan was being reconnected towards the world.

Pakistan Tanners Association Chairman Gulzar Feroz presented the welcome address, while French and EU ambassadors and the top office-bearers of Pakistan Footwear Association, Pakistan Gloves Manufacturing and Export Association, Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturing and Export Association, organizer of the Mega Leather Show and Conference, SAARC CCI Vice President Iftikhar Ali Malik, TDAP Chairman S.M. Muneer were prominent among other local and foreign businessmen participated in the conference.
