Indian firm will execute CASA-1000 project within Afghanistan

Dushanbe, Tajikistan: The outcome of Quadrilateral Summit of CASA-1000 that held on July 6, 2017 in Tajikistan shows that necessary steps and measures for rapid completion of tender process of project is the top priority of stakeholders.

According to information available with CASA-1000 project office, an Indian will execute work of CASA-1000 in Afghanistan. TBEA Company situated in Vadodara Indian Gujarat deals in power houses design, oil-immersed high-voltage current transformer, inductive voltage transformer, combination transformer and capacity voltage transformer.

Other international firms for execution of project would include ABB, GE/Alstom, Siemens and CEEC.

Afghan President Ashraf Gani, Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and President Emomali Rahmon during Quadrilateral Summit of CASA-1000 were of the view that an early start of the construction of the CASA-1000 components, including the construction of a transmission line in the territory of Afghanistan would be top priority in third quarter of year 2017.

All four leaders discussed prospects and measures for improving coordination and interactions aimed at the soonest completion of tender phase and an early start of the construction of the CASA-1000 components.

CASA-1000 project is yet to be kicked off despite of its formal inauguration in May last year due to turbulent law and order situation in Afghanistan where the transmission and distribution line of this hydroelectric project would run to reach Pakistan.

The Summit was attended the representatives of the World Bank, Islamic Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank, United States Agency for International Development and Department for International Development of the United Kingdom, which are partners on the implementation of the CASA-1000 Project.

The CASA-1000 project is based on AC/DC conversion/transmission system. CASA-1000 project will start from Kyrgyzstan and it will reach Afghanistan through Tajikistan and onward to Nowshera. The length of electricity transmission/distribution line in Afghanistan is estimated to 562km.
