ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The exports of fresh fruits and vegetables from the country during the first month of current financial year registered an increase of 28.95 percent and decrease of 28.31 percent respectively as compared to the exports of the corresponding period of last financial year.
Fruit exports from the country during month of July, 20116 grew by 28.95 percent as compared to same month of last financial year, according the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
About 26,909 metric tons fresh fruits of different kinds were exported and earned US$ 23.086 million during the first month of current financial year as compared to the exports of 21,980 metric tons valuing of US$ 17 million.
On month on month basis, about 33,714 metric tons of fruit exported in month of June as compared to the exports of 26,909 metric tons exported in July, 2016. However, export of vegetables from the country decreased by 28.31 percent and was recorded at 32,345 metric tons in July, 2016 as compared to 43,305 metric tons of same period last year.
During first month of current financial year, country had earned US$ 8.25 million by exporting the vegetables of different kinds as compared to the exports of US$ 11.52 million of same period last year.
The exports of leguminous vegetables (pulses) registered zero growth in first month as no quantity was exported in month of July.
Meanwhile, wheat exports grew by 100 percent and about 86 metric tons of wheat worth US$ 0.29 million exported which was recorded at zero in same month of last financial year.
In first month of 2016-17, exports of oil seeds, nuts and kernals increased by 67 percent and about 606 metric tons of above mention commodity worth US$ 1.03 million were exported as compared to the exports of 448 metric tons valuing of US$ 0.616 million of same period of last year.
It may be recalled that good group exports witnessed 15.35 percent decrease in first month as compared the exports of same period of last year as food commodities worth of US$ 185.528 million exported.
