FBR says income tax deducted from salaries of all parliamentarians

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said on Thursday that income tax is deducted from the salaries of all the parliamentarians under section 149 of Income Tax Ordinance 2001.

In a statement, the FBR Spokesman Shahid Hussain Asad said that under the constitution the federal government cannot tax agricultural income. He‚ however‚ said that agricultural income is taxable under the provincial Agricultural Income Tax law.

Earlier‚ the Public Accounts Committee directed the FBR to clarify the factual position against media reports that parliamentarians are not paying taxes.
