MULTAN, Pakistan: The Punjab government has set 19.5 million ton wheat sowing target in the province.
According to assistant director agriculture information Naveed Asmat Kohloon, there was immense potential for enhancing per acre wheat yield in the province.
He stated that agriculture department had recommended Sehr-2006, Lasani 2008, Aas 2011, Millat 2011, Aari 2011, Galaxy 2013, NRAC 2011 varieties for cultivation till November 20, otherwise, farmers could not be able achieve the desired produce.
Naveed further said that over 126,000 farmers had been imparted special training to use latest agricultural machinery in order to enhance yield.
He said the incumbent government was also offering Rs 500 and Rs 218 subsidy on each bag of DAP and Nitrophos fertilizer.
Similarly, the Punjab government also provided wheat seeds worth Rs 300 million to farmers hailing from 28860 villages in the province. He claimed that government’s measures would surely help bring down input cost and increase output.
