Brazil to hold general elections on Sunday

BRASÍLIA: Brazil will hold the general elections on Sunday to elect the President, the National Congress, state governors and state legislatures.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, a second round will be held on October 26.

The recent opinion polls suggest that the incumbent President Dilma Rousseff of the Workers’ Party (PT) will secure a second term after a run-off election if that happens.

There are eleven candidates who are running for the president of Brazil for the next four years.

However, only three including Dilma Rousseff, Aécio Neves from the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) and Marina Silva from the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) appear as the strongest contenders and most likely to win the elections on Sunday.
