Bollywood Film Ghanchakkar earns Rs 23 crores in the opening weekend

EntertainmentBollywood Film Ghanchakkar earns Rs 23 crores in the opening weekend

MUMBAI: Considering the movie title and Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan teaming up once again, Ghanchakkar was riding high on expectation. Though this Raj Kumar Gupta hatke presentation has garnered mixed reviews from critics, the movie has managed to get a good number of footfalls, especially considering it’s a big solo release. Raj Kumar Gupta’s comedy has managed to get off to a healthy start, but will it last?

“Ghanchakkar rests purely on the star power of its lead pair – Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan. Despite unfavourable reviews, the film has managed a fairly good opening weekend,” informs the leading exhibitor-distributor Akshaye Rathi. “Despite the fact that it’s an unconventional genre and has non-typical music, we are hoping that it can sustain this to come as close to the recovery numbers as possible.”

The movie was expected to show a big jump over the weekend. While business remained almost the same on Saturday, the movie starring Emraan and Vidya obviously saw a substantial leap in audience numbers on Sunday. Ghanchakkar collected Rs 23 crores nett in the first weekend.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh points out, “Ghanchakkar didn’t perform as expected. The presence of formidable stars ensured footfalls in the opening weekend, but business did not witness major growth on Saturday or Sunday, since the appreciation is missing.”
