Area 51 and the conspiracies

Matthias Samuel

There is a lot going on about Area 51. Recently, on a Facebook group 1.3 million people have signed up to storm Area 51 just to see what is inside that restricted area. Following are some short details, introduction and all that is going on with the Area 51.

Introduction

What is little known about the restricted facility is that it is a US Air Force military base located at Groom Lake in southern Nevada. It is important to note that it is an active military installation and is administered by Edwards Air Force Base in southern California. Public is not allowed to go inside under any conditions and is under 24-hour surveillance. The only confirmed use of the base is that it is a flight testing facility.

What is known and not known

In the context of what is not known is that there are only conspiracies about the area. In 1989 a man named Robert (“Bob”) Lazar claimed that he worked on extraterrestrial technology inside Area 51. According to Lazar he saw autopsy photographs of aliens inside the facility and that the US government used the facility to examine recovered alien spacecraft. Pretty weird to hear it but that is what all the conspiracies are about, extraterrestrial life or technology. People have even reported seeing unidentified flying objects (UFOs) in or near Area 51.

In the context of what is known is that it is simply a US air base. In 2013 the US government officially acknowledged the existence of Area 51, before that they completely denied it, which is pretty weird. On June 25, 2013, the CIA declassified the documents regarding the history of the U-2 and OXCART programs. The documents were released in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request submitted in 2005 by American intelligence historian Jeffrey T. Richelson. The release of the documents marked the first time the US government formally acknowledged the existence of Area 51.

Final verdict

In a Facebook event titled “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us,” the creators explain: “We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Let’s see them aliens.” naruto run is basically ostrich-like sprint of a popular Japanese anime character.

The US Air Force, however, is not amused, with a spokeswoman telling “any attempt to illegally access military installations or military training areas is dangerous”. “No trespassing” signs in the area reportedly state that the use of “deadly force” against intruders is authorized. So the US air force has made it pretty clear that such actions will not be tolerated.

In reality it is simply an air base and there are some things that the government cannot share with the public, maybe because of the National security, the reaction is normal because obviously it is their military base which does require a high level security.
