GILGIT: The use of motorcycle has been banned for today in the city after an outlawed organization announced to hold strike against the provincial system of government in Gilgit.

Meantime, mobile phone service will remain suspended for 12 hours from 7am to 7pm today.

According to deputy Commissioner Gilgit Captain (rted.) Shahbaz Nadeem, the banned outfit announced strike for today in protest against the Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self Rule Order 2009 in Gilgit.

The decision to keep mobile phone services suspended, has been taken up by the district administration as precautionary measure to avert any untoward incident during today’s strike.

A statement issued from deputy commissioner’s office states that entrance and exit points of the city, government and private educational institutes and offices will also remain closed today.
