Ban Ki-moon phones Nawaz Sharif; urges role to resolve Iran-Saudi tension


ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Friday telephoned Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and urged him to play his role to help resolve the tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

“Prime Minister! You have good relations with both countries, Iran and Saudi Arabia and you can play a vital and pivotal role in finding a solution to the problem,” the United Nations Secretary General said, according to a PM House press release.

“The leader that you are Prime Minister! You can resolve that (issue)”, the Secretary General said.

Later, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif briefed the UN Secretary General about his visits to Saudi Arabia and Iran.
